one of those exceptions was being contacted by a cousin a few years back and during that conversation i discovered that my mother had been and still was the prime mover in my complete and continuing shunning.
i then used what contacts i had left to confirm it.
I agree with not helping. Let's say the family member was wealthy hypothetically of course. Would they leave you out of the inheritance because you aren't a witness? If the answer is yes then you have the same obligation to them. Absolutely nothing.
I am in a similar boat as my parents have written me off for simply standing my ground and saying I will not support a organisation that's hiding CSA period.

it did in one of mine a decade ago.
not only were funds on hand in the congregation account used but repeated announcements were made to contribute towards the medical treatments for an elder’s wife who was battling breast cancer.
Funny thing is the same people that would get upset about the use of funds to help heal a person with cancer. Is the people that would say it's ok to pay to hide pedos.

i'm a member on jw talk (until now at least) and have been regularly checking up on their thread regarding the annual meeting.
there hasn't been a great deal to report on except for this recent post that has been made.
i may get outed but that's no loss.

ok so this is a topic i've pondered and go back and forth on.. i can easily see a point where lawsuits cause massive deficits in the organization.
honestly i feel like we are seeing the tip of the iceberg in regards to lawsuits on child abuse.

If they showed a decrease it raises questions. They cant afford that.
